I know that die hard Fifty Shades of Grey fans were HYPE this past weekend with the news that actor Charlie Hunnam dropped out of the film version, after having been cast as “Christian Grey”. I’ve just started reading the first installment of the Fifty Shades trilogy, and while I think that Hunnam is a wonderful actor, I just couldn’t see him in this role. Based on physicality alone, I still maintain, along with many others, that Matt Bomer, Ian Somerhalder, or a complete unknown waiting for his big break should now be cast.
Reports state that Hunnam’s schedule with filming Sons of Anarchy would not allow for him to also properly prepare for his role as Grey. I highly respect that, although I also wonder if all the controversy around the casting choices for the two leads of the film is also to be blamed. People were having a FIT!
If Alexis Bledel never portrays Anastasia Steele, that’s alright with me. I just hope that Christian Grey can now be inhabited by an actor who I can envision as the character.
