Adelina, Kim, & “Russiaflation” in Sochi

I don’t know about you, but this year’s Winter Olympics were a bit lackluster for me. I’ve always been more of a Summer Olympics kind of girl, but not even the ice skating competitions could save me from multitasking with my laptop and phone during nightly viewing. What I will vouch for is how brilliant I thought both Kim Yu-Na and Adelina Sotnikova were, how hard Ashley Wagner fought, how lovely Gracie Gold looked and performed, and how happy I was to hear of Meryl and Charlie winning a gold medal.  After seeing both Yu-Na and Adelina skate their hearts out, I honestly think that Adelina deserves her gold medal. Placing scoring and previous titles aside,  judging from what I saw, Adelina was breathtaking and spirited. I was in awe of the difficulty during her program, the back to back triple jumps, and how at ease and happy she looked, even in moments of technical precision. I couldn’t take my eyes off of her.

Kim Yu-Na was spectacular and beautiful, but I saw that indefinable X-factor when I witnessed Sotnikova’s gold medal winning presentation.
