Young Fathers WIN The 2014 Barclaycard Mercury Prize!!!

Yesterday I declared Young Fathers as your (potential) new favorite band AND hours after they up and won the 2014 Barclaycard Mercury Prize! In case you are not familiar with this award, every year musical talent are nominated for a prestigious Mercury Prize, which awards the best album of the year in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The prize awarded is 20,000 pounds, along with bonafide critical acclaim within the music industry.

The year Young Fathers was up against some really amazing talent in Anna Calvi, Kate Tempest, FKA Twigs, Bombay Bicycle Club, Damon Albarn, East India Youth, Jungle, GoGo Penguin, Nick Mulvey, Polar Bear, and Royal Blood. Even though FKA Twigs was the favored artist, by the media, to win, Young Fathers came out on top, upsetting those odds.
