I have NOTHING against the production of this movie. I remember the day when Aaliyah died and it was truly a day of mourning. I eventually said “LET’S DO THIS!” when Lifetime announced that they would produce a movie about Aaliyah, even when my first instinct was to exclaim that I wished the movie could be seen on the big screen instead. I also was upset when Zendaya dropped out of this movie because I think that her being cast for the role was perfect and would have elevated her career to another level. Now, having viewed the official trailer for “Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B”, the only gripe that I have about this film, thus far, is that I wish Zendaya continued on with this project until post-production. *sigh*
What do you think about the casting of actress Alexandra Shipp, as Aaliyah, after having watched this? Would you have preferred Zendaya, think that we should lay our final verdicts on the gauntlet after the movie airs, or have your own dream lead actress for the role in mind?
I feel as though I have been waiting for this show to premiere for YEARS! Glad to see that this is really happening. With “Project Runway” continuing its domination in the DIY fashion reality TV arena and now it’s time to usher in an era of DIY beauty reality competition programming. If Sharmadean Reid doesn’t make an appearance on this first season of “Nail’d It“, I pray that she is placed into consideration for Season 2!
I had the opportunity to check out a sneak preview of one of Fox’s new television shows, “Red Band Society” before tonight’s pilot premiere and I must say that it’s not a perfect show…. yet. But that’s part of its charm. We the viewing public are used to seeing beloved shows tossed in the pop culture trashcan before seeing them blossom past their one year of infancy. All of the elements for a great show are here- an up and coming young cast, familiar faces of proven talent (Octavia Spencer, Wilson Cruz, Grffin Dunne, Dave Annable, Thomas Ian Nicholas), and a compelling storyline centered within hospital walls. Add in an Executive Producer in Steven Spielberg and comparisons to an iconic 80s teen movie and “Red Band Society” can’t lose. Or can it? I sure hope not. I want to see what comes of Kara, Charlie, Dash, Emma, Leo, and Jordi. I really do. Plus, Octavia Spencer’s Nurse Jackson and Zoe Levin’s Kara Souders are both so deliciously “rhymes with witchy” on the show and that alone is enough for me to keep tuning in week after week. The reason behind Charlie’s stay in the hospital will also tug at all of your strings. “Red Band Society”, in my mind, deserves a chance to be seen and heard.
